Collection: Every Child Matters
We are starting the Mariam Wesley Memorial Scholarship in the memory of our great aunt who never came home from residential school.
Mariam Wesley was 10 years old when she was taken from her family to Bishop Horden Hall Indian Residential School. She was 14 years old when she died from Tuberculosis on July 23, 1942, her remains were never returned and our family was told she was buried in Cochrane, no marker or location was given.
Our family has always talked about her not coming back from residential school. Since the news of children’s remains discovered in Kamloops residential school in 2021, our family set out to determine where her final resting place. We found her resting place September 2021.
Proceeds of Every Child Matters items will be contributed to the scholarship, and we will deliver the scholarship through Indspire. Indspire is a nationally registered charitable organization dedicated to raising funds to deliver programs that provide the tools necessary for Indigenous students.
